Cool Whip Cookies
As a busy mom, I am always looking for easy, but delicious recipes. These Cool Whip cookies are just that! With only four ingredients, minimal mess, and hardly any prep time, this is one of the easiest cookie recipes I know! Also sometimes called crinkle cookies, these easy cake mix cookies can be any flavor you want! All you have to do is decide on a box of cake mix!
I first started making these cool whip cake mix cookies when my oldest daughter started wanting to help me bake (when she was 2 years old). She has so much fun picking a flavor of cake mix (usually funfetti…) from the store and then getting to roll each delightful cookie dough ball in the powdered sugar.

This is also a go-to recipe for me for any holiday! It’s so easy to customize the recipe to fit any holiday by choosing a different flavor of cake mix! For example, I like to use devil’s food cake mix for Halloween, red velvet for Valentine’s Day, add green food coloring to white cake mix for St. Patrick’s Day, lemon mix for summer events, carrot cake for Easter, pumpkin spice for Thanksgiving, and gingerbread for Christmas!
Okay, now let’s talk about easy these Cool Whip cookies are to make! All that you need for this recipe is a bowl to mix the dough in and a cookie sheet to bake them on. As far as ingredients go, all you are going to need is one box of an flavor cake mix, a container of Cool Whip, one egg and some powdered sugar. Talk about easy peasy!
Then, to make these cookies, all you need to do is mix it all together, roll them in the sugar and bake! Then you are done! It’s so insane how simple these cookies are to make! But let’s break it down into lists to make it easier to prepare and shop for this recipe:
Equipment Needed for These Easy Cool Whip Cookies:
Shopping List for Cool Whip Cookies:
- 15.25 oz Cake Mix (1 box- any flavor you want)
- 8 oz Cool Whip
- Egg
- Powdered Sugar
How to Make These Simple Cool Whip Cookies:
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- Prepare baking sheet with either non-stick spray or Parchment paper.
- Mix cake mix, Cool Whip and egg together in a mixing bowl until blended.
- Drop teaspoons full of cookie dough into the powdered sugar to coat.
- Place on prepared cooking sheet 2″ apart.
- Bake on center rack for 12-15 minutes.
- Allow to cool on baking sheet.
Tips for making the perfect cookies:
- Don’t over mix the dough. Cookie dough that is over mixed will result in dense cookies. The Cool Whip in this recipe is meant to keep these cookies light and fluffy. Simply mix the ingredients until they are well combined and then start forming the cookies.
- Cookie preparation should be done, if possible, away from the oven. Prepping your cookie dough should be done in a cooler location of the kitchen. Prepping in a warm space will start to melt the Cool Whip before they ever even hit the oven.
- Unless you decide to make your own dry ingredient cake mix, there are no real substitutions for this recipe. You may, however, consider substituting the egg with flaxseed like I have done in several other dessert recipes. For directions on how to use this can be found in this article: How to Get Kids to Eat Healthy | 5 Nutrition Sneaking Hacks.
- Cooking on the center rack is best for cookie formation. However, if you must use more than one cookie sheet and place on two shelves, rotate/switch the sheets halfway through the baking time. You may also need to add a minute or two to the total bake time.
Tips to making these 4 ingredient cookies perfect for any holiday/occasion:
As I said before, this is my go-to recipe for me for any holiday! It’s so easy to customize the recipe to fit any holiday! Here are some ideas for how to do that:
- Cake mix choice: I like to use devil’s food cake mix for Halloween, red velvet for Valentine’s Day, lemon mix for summer events, carrot cake for Easter, pumpkin spice for Thanksgiving, and gingerbread for Christmas! What flavor will you use for each holiday?
- Food Coloring: Adding food coloring to white boxed cake mix is the easiest way to add a festive flare to these simple cookies.
- Sprinkles: Sprinkles are also an easy add to the mix to add some holiday cheer. Be aware though, that sprinkles also add texture. Depending on your preference and type of sprinkle you use, it may enhance or detract from the cookie’s flavor. I would suggest sticking with Jimmies for this recipe.
- Colored sugars: Mixing colored sugar in with the powdered sugar to coat these cookies adds a punch of color without adding too much texture difference to these cookies.
