Easy Candy Recipe | Jell-O Candy

My toddler and I are OBSESSED with candy!  It’s safe to say that we spend a minor fortune on candy at our house. For example, when at the pediatrician, my toddler looked at the food pyramid and questioned why there wasn’t a candy category… So one day, we were both wanting candy and somehow didn’t have any at home.  We had to come up with something!  That was the day that I created this easy candy recipe!

I started with looking up different candy or gummy recipes and I found this one made with Jell-O but it also required gelatin.  I didn’t have any plain gelatin.

I decided to go ahead and try to make my own variation without it and it worked!  I just had to reduce my mixture more than this recipe suggested.

All you need for this super easy candy recipe is:

  1. A small pot.
  2. A silicon gummy mold.  **I don’t have one so I just used my mini muffin mold and made ‘coin-like’ gummies.
  3. Two 3oz packages of Jell-O.  **Any flavor you like.  May also use Sugar-free Jell-O.
  4. One cup of water.
  5. Vegetable Oil to coat mold.
  6. Colored sugar to coat gummies.  **May substitute regular sugar or powdered sugar.

How to make homemade Jell-O candy:

  1. Use a paper towel to coat the inside of a silicon candy/mini cupcake mold.  This will prevent the gummies from sticking.
  2. Dissolve 6oz of Jell-O powder into 1 cup of water over medium-high heat.
  3. Bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat to a simmer.
  5. Continue to stir for 5-10 minutes or until mixture begins to thicken to desired consistency.
  6. Pour mixture into mold dividing evenly.
  7. Refrigerate until set.  This will be at least one hour.  Best if left over night.
  8. Remove from mold and coat in colored sugar, sugar, or powdered sugar.  This will prevent them from sticking to each other and provide some added sweetness/texture!
  9. Enjoy them!
  10. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

We love this easy candy recipe because:

  1. You only need 2 ingredients!
  2. It’s so simple my toddler can make them (**of course I do the part over the stove).
  3. You have the option to make them sugar-free (leave in a single layer on parchment paper if not coating with sugar).
  4. They are super LOW CALORIE!
  5. They are super budget friendly!
