Gratitude for your Attitude
Sometimes to have an attitude of gratitude you must first have gratitude for an attitude.
This is especially true when you have a toddler in their “terrible twos”.
So, this is to my daughter:
I can’t count how many times:
I have to answer the question, “Why?”
But I am grateful for your inquisitiveness.
I play doctor or house with you.
But I am grateful for your imagination.
You tell me “I do myself, don’t touch”.
But I am grateful for your independence.
I must dance to Baby Shark.
But I am grateful for the joy it brings.

I listen to the alphabet song.
But I am grateful to hear you recite them.
You have colored/painted your body/ the wall rather than the paper.
But I am grateful for your creativity.
You ask me, “What is that?”
But I am grateful for your desire to learn.
You throw a tantrum over something silly.
But I am grateful for your adamancy.
I have to ask you to repeat yourself so that I can figure out what you are saying
But I am grateful for your patience.

You tell me everything is, “Mine!”
But I am grateful for your passion.
I tell you “no” but you keep asking until I say “yes”.
But I am grateful for your persistence.
Because when the day is over,
And you fall asleep,
I miss it.
I miss it all.
I want to answer more of your questions and watch your mind work.
I want to play another game and see how you perceive life.
I want to do another dance and see you smile.
I want to watch you put your shoes on the wrong feet because you did it yourself.
I want to hear the ABC’s again in your sweet voice.
I want to watch you turn from mad about something silly to being silly in a two second time span.
I want you to do it all.
Because, at the end of the day,
I have nothing but gratitude for your attitude.

This is a great read and yes, I agree with you that we also need gratitude for attitude. I am part of a gratitude group and I just shared your post there. This is really sweet.

I love this! Mine is growing out of this terrible phase, but I have to say the threes were way worse than the twos! lol – I’m glad you have such a good outlook though! It’s so necessary!

What a wonderful way to look at things. Kids are very curious and full of questions. They learn this way and while it can be trying to have a positive attitude makes all the difference.

I really love this post. It’s wonderful. This is so beautiful too. I can relate to the coloring on the walls when my kids were younger too.

A lovely post, made me emotional. Your daughter is precious! I love that you are sharing this attitude of gratitude for all that comes with being a mom of a two-year-old!!

She’s so cute! I love the way she stands innocently by the wall after colouring it down to a wreck. This was such a good read.

This is amazing! Yes, be grateful and cherish the time they are little, because they grow up so fast!

Aww she is such a doll. I have five daughters. My youngest is 13. Every age is fun, but sometimes I really miss when they were little and cuddly.

I love this! and you brought tears to my eyes. It reminds me of how they don’t stay little long and one day, I will miss so much of what I used to think drove me crazy. I already miss so many of these.

She is such a cutie! And, you’re right, it’s always best to see the positive even after dancing to baby shark for the 1000th time!

This is a time for us all to be thankful because we have all those simple things. I know we all get annoyed by things but they are so silly in thebroad scope oof things.

This was so so beautiful to read. It made me very emotional..my oldest is growing up so fast and it’s so sweet how you portray what others might consider frustrating (e.g. the colouring on the wall 😆). But it’s true, if I could go back in time and watch him grow up again I would. Thank you for such a beautiful outlook on all aspects of mothering toddlers 💕

I love the way you think. It’s important to remember the good in every situation!
