Easy Amish White Bread
This classic, easy Amish white bread recipe requires no kneading, yet still produces the most fluffy, soft loaves of white bread! If you’re intimidated by baking homemade bread, this recipe is for YOU! It is just so easy! You don’t need any fancy bread makers or ingredients. You most likely have all the ingredients for this easy Amish white bread in your pantry right now!
I started making bread this way when we ran out of sandwich bread before it was grocery day. My usual, No Knead Overnight Bread recipe is amazing for toast and serving with soup or pasta, but it is not that soft, fluffy sandwich-style bread we all know and love. This easy Amish white bread recipe is just that! It is amazing for sandwiches, especially for breakfast sandwiches, because it almost has a biscuit flavor and texture when toasting and adding butter to it!
My favorite things about this recipe as the baker though is:
- It requires almost NO work (unless you consider waiting for it to rise work)!
- There are hardly any dishes to do!
- It is SUPER easy to slice because it is such a soft loaf of bread!
What you need for this easy Amish white bread recipe:
- Large mixing bowl
- Wooden spoon
- Stand Mixer with hook attachment **optional
- Kitchen Towel
- 2 Loaf Pans
Shopping List:
- 2 tbsp Instant Yeast
- 2 tbsp Granulated Sugar
- 1 tbsp Salt
- 0.25 c Oil **plus 1 tbsp to coat bowl
- 6 c All Purpose Flour **dusting more to keep from sticking to hands
- .25 c Butter
Instructions to make this easy Amish white bread:
- Mix yeast and water in a a large mixing bowl or stand mixer. Let sit until dissolved (10 minutes).
- Add sugar, salt, oil and flour (two cups a time). Mix (with wooden spoon or dough hook if using a stand mixer) until it comes together in a large dough ball.
- Adding a little flour to the top of the dough or on your hands so it doesn’t stick to your hands, remove dough from bowl.
- Coat bowl with a thin layer of oil.
- Form dough into a nice, round ball and place in greased bowl.
- Cover bowl with a towel and place in a warm spot.
- Let rise for one hour.
- Punch down risen dough (putting a little more flour on your knuckles if needed not to stick).
- Remove and stretch dough slightly, then form back into a ball and return to bowl.
- Cover and let rise for another hour.
- Preheat oven to 350F and grease two loaf pans.
- Split dough into two equal portions.
- Form into smooth loaves and place in prepared pans.
- Let rise and rest for at least 10 minutes before baking.
- Bake for 30 minutes on center rack.
- Melt butter in microwave.
- Pop baked loaves out right away and place on wire rack.
- Brush top with melted butter.
- Place towel over loaves while they cool before slicing.

Q. Can I use bread flour?
A. Absolutely! You can use any flour you have on hand. However, if using a gluten free flour, I would reduce the amount of flour used as gluten free flours tend to suck up moisture.
Q. Do I have to brush with butter?
A. Nope! The butter will make the loaves softer and add a nice flavor, but can be omitted!
